The ability to successfully manage projects is a key skill sought in almost all sectors of the economy today, but several reports and studies have exposed its dearth in the country. Considering the fact that time and cost overruns, and projects getting stalled are such common occurrences, there is an urgent need for us to understand the principles and practices behind successful projects, and implement sound project management practices for effective project delivery.

With this objective, FICCI is holding a Symposium on Project Management Practices on March 10, 2015 at FICCI, New Delhi in partnership with Project Management Institute (PMI), India. The Symposium will focus on case studies which exemplify application of project management practices to address the critical challenges in this area. They could be about effectiveness of organizational entities such as Project Management Office (PMO) in monitoring project execution and removing bottlenecks, or about building organizational capability in project management to improve project outcomes, or even about engaging stakeholders through a truly collaborative effort. FICCI and PMI will formulate recommendations based on the principles behind these practices and subsequently work with key stakeholders to facilitate their implementation.

Focus Areas:

  1. Role of Project Management Office (PMO) in removing bottlenecks for stalled projects
  2. Institutionalizing Crisis Resolution processes for large programs
  3. Building Project Management Capabilities in Government
  4. Quality of Stakeholder Engagement and Risk Management imperatives in large projects
  5. Ensuring Project Management Expertise of executing agencies and sub-contractors
  6. Project Management in the new age of technology

Shortlisting of abstracts and best presentation awards will be decided by the Conference Committee comprising eminent leaders from organizations associated with the Project Management profession.
